Naira further gains against dollar at parallel market

                                 naira
The Naira on Thursday marginally appreciated against the dollar at the parallel market..

The Nigerian currency gained three points to exchange at N462 to a dollar, after it closed at N465 on Wednesday, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N550 and N477, respectively.
At the Bureau De Change (BDC) window, the Naira was sold at N399 to a dollar CBN controlled rate, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N550 and N500, respectively.
The Naira exchanged at N305.80 at the interbank market.
Currency traders expressed optimism that liquidity boost in the market would help to shore up the Naira rate.
However, an economist, Mr Harrison Owoh has attributed the instability in the exchange rate in spite of liquidity boost in the forex market to excessive demand for dollars.
Owoh said that the injection of 1.14 billion dollars by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the interbank market were majorly at the service of letters of credits and invisibles.
According to him, it is the cash at hand that brings down the exchange rate not mere letters of credit.
He explained that China, which is the seat of importation business, was on holiday for a full month, adding that the vacation slowed than importation activities by Nigerian importers.
The economist said that since the resumption in importation, the demand for FOREX had outstripped its supply.

The Corruption In Nigeria's Whistle-Blowing Policy

Although the whistle-blowing policy in Nigeria has produced results over time, Sufuyan Ojeifo has outlined some loopholes in the system.

Illustrative photo
Two weeks ago, as I was moving some personal effects from my office, I had to, in my own interest, resort to full disclosure of the contents of the ghana-must-go bags to my gateman, who usually helps me to convey heavy luggage into my residence.
I did that so as to clear an atmosphere of suspicion, which was created by the sight of the two fully-loaded bags sitting in the trunk of my car.  I did not want to become a victim of sudden invasion and search by any of the security agencies on account of alleged warehousing of suspected proceeds of crime.
Nobody should blame me for taking a precautionary measure.  At that point, I could not trust my gateman not to pull a smart one on me in order to make money.  It has become quite difficult to trust anybody in whistle-blowing matters, especially now that there is a reward attached to exposing where looted public funds are hidden.
We now live in interesting times.  It is quite thrilling to observe the ease with which security personnel and anti-graft agencies now discover humongous monies hidden outside the banking institution, although they must be proven to be the proceeds of crime.  If the ongoing war against corruption is all about uncovering huge sums of money in different currencies in people’s homes, almost every wealthy Nigerian and business moguls living in highbrow locations across the country would become a victim of raids carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Therefore, it is about time the anti-graft agency to properly defined the scope of the whistle-blowing policy before a law is passed to that effect.  The Anambra State election is around the corner. Would the EFCC act on some “witch-hunting” whistles and go after the homes of the chieftains of the opposition party for keeping aside huge stashes of cash to fund the forthcoming election and allow the ruling All Progressives Congress to operate unhindered?
Nevertheless, I think that this policy is also increasingly making those who have looted public funds, especially those under investigations or trial, uneasy – a good development, if you ask me.
Just as William Shakespeare said, the evil that men do lives after them.  Another interesting side to this development is that the victims of the corrupt rich could mischievously grab the opportunity to even scores with them and access five per cent of the same money that was smartly denied them.
Although, the Federal Government is trying to transform every Nigerian who is not culpable in the shameless looting of the nation’s treasury into a whistle-blower, the shortchanged are likely to take undue advantage of this policy.  It will be nothing but a case of an accomplice exposing a smatter collaborator in a grand corruption matter. The falcon would covertly get a part of the loot while the falconer would have been beaten to his ‘fast game’ when both should have, ideally, lost all claims to the recovered funds.  So, in the circumstance of the operation of the whistle-blowing policy, corruption could be rewarded.
The policy that entitles a whistle-blower to five per cent of the hidden booty, recovered through his or her tip-off, is alluring.  It is a cool means of making big money. But it should be well-guided not to become an instrument of witch-hunting and, in the end, corrupt the entire anti-corruption crusade.  It may become messy for the EFCC to handle if politics creeps in, since the commission is largely controlled by the government with political interest.
What the whistle-blowing policy has done, therefore, is to encourage people to attack the culture of trust, even if earned in questionable circumstances.  It is thus difficult for one to trust anybody these days, whether or not the circumstances are questionable. Going by the claims that whistle blowers’ tip-offs were responsible for the discoveries of hidden funds by the anti-graft agency, one is bound to interrogate the inter-personal relationships in all their ramifications, else, even the innocent will be wrongly targeted and pursued.
A situation where the identities of the owners of some discovered monies are shrouded in secrecy questions the validity of the claim that the discoveries were made on account of information provided by whistle-blowers.  Nigerians are still asking questions on the real owners of monies discovered by the EFCC.
There is also an abiding concern over suspicions that some of these mystery whistle-blowers are rival security agencies or their officials, who, having been enmeshed in inter-agency rivalry, have resorted to blowing whistles just to settle scores or prove some points.  A section of the public is insinuating this in the yet-to-be-sorted single largest discovery and recovery by the EFCC in Lagos State.
Certainly, desperation could precipitate a rash of frantic actions.  I hope that is not the case here.  Could it be a fight-back within the nation’s security circle?  If it is, then this could then mean the setting in of inter-agency witch-hunting, which is capable of undermining the entire whistle-blowing policy.  The reasoning will be if they could do that to themselves, what would they not do to outsiders?
I sincerely hope that was not what happened with the cash discovered and recovered at the Osborne Tower flat in Ikoyi.  Although, the National Intelligence Agency had to courageously step out to claim ownership of the money, purportedly meant for covert operations, its suspended Director-General, Ayo Oke, had maintained, in media reports, that he had already briefed the National Security Adviser about the cash.
Those claims have already been investigated by the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo panel.  The outcome of the inquisition by the three-man panel should unravel the truth. Nigerians anxiously await the outcome of the panel’s investigations.
However, all the concerns about the whistle blowing policy should be factored into the legislation that will spell its operations, functions and parameters.  It may turn out as one of the best instruments to drive the anti-graft war if properly implemented. The legal instrument should firm up the policy.
But, as long as it remains a policy and it is pursued on ad-hoc basis, then we should be ready to live with the perversion, manipulation, politicisation and propagandism for which the security and anti-graft agencies would deploy it in order to deal with their enemies or even outwit one another.
Consequently, the perceived inherent concerns about the policy along the line of witch-hunting, as well as the non-disclosure of the identities of the owners of recovered loot - which promotes corruption – cannot bolster public confidence and credibility in the system.

Yemi Osinbajo Is No Longer Acting President!!!

Buhari’s Medical Leave Letter Says So!!! - See Mr President's Letter
The content of President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the Senate, notifying the Lawmakers of his intention to travel to the United Kingdom, UK, for a follow up medical leave, failed to recognize Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, as the Acting President.
The President’s letter, sparked another round of controversy in the Upper Legislative Chamber, on Tuesday, as the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, read the letter at Tuesday’s plenary.
Buhari in his letter said: “Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, would coordinate government’s affairs”, while he is away.
Unlike the previous letter Buhari had written to the Senate, transmitting Presidential powers to his Vice, Osinbajo, this particular letter failed to do so.
After reading the letter to the Senators, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, said the letter did not say anything.
The Senator argued that, “there is no provision for coordinating Vice President in the Constitution.”
However, Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, countered that the letter quoted section 145 of the Constitution. The section that gives the Vice President power to act in the absence of the President.
The Senate President nevertheless, overruled Ohuabunwa’s argument.

Nnamdi Kanu proclaims he want nothing else other than Biafra

Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has vowed to never give up on Biafra.
Kanu made the vow after he visited leaders of pan-Igbo groups, the Eastern Consultative Assembly and the Igbo Youth Movement. He said, “I desire Biafra. I want Biafra. I want nothing else other than Biafra. I will not settle for anything else other than Biafra.
“That was what I was born to do and that is what I will do till the day Biafra will come, that we may live as free men on this very earth as the Most High God, Chukwu Okike Abiama, ordained it,” Kanu said.
“I have chosen the option that we must be free as a people, that we must be liberated as a race and that we must have every God-given freedom due to us. I would not want to go to heaven to experience it (freedom). I want to experience it here.''
“I thank all of you that worked very hard, especially the Igbo Youth Movement, I must be specific, and the Eastern Consultative Assembly, and all the market men, market women, those that closed their shops to see us and all those who made efforts to ensure that I was not consumed.
“I thank all of you, those who contributed to my being here today, because without your pressure, I don’t think I will be here.
“However, the work is not done yet, we need to finish it.”
“On those we left behind, we are making effort to see that they come out because they committed no crime. All we are seeking for is freedom – a return to the values we had before the advent of white men. A situation where people move their cows into our farms and slaughter our people will no longer be acceptable,” Kanu said.

Vice president of Nigeria to sign 2017 budget, inaugurate new ministers

Osinbajo will most likely sign the 2017 budget into law should the document be passed by the National Assembly any time soon.

The same goes for the swearing in of the two minister-designates, who had been screened and confirmed by the Senate.
The source said: “Look, the President, before leaving, had briefed Osinbajo. He had empowered him to do certain things on his behalf. Both had some discussions on a wide range of issues. So, those things may be part of what they discussed.”

Ubi Franklin narrates how he was almost stabbed by Chinese man in Lagos

Triple MG boss,Ubi Franklin has narrated how he escaped being stabbed by a Chinese man in Lekki on Tuesday. He wrote alongside a photo of the man at the police station
"Earlier today I was at Lifemate furniture show room at the palms Lekki to enquire about a service I paid for that wasn't attended to. I was then asked by a junior staff (Nigerian) to speak to his "OGA" (a Chinese man).
The Chinese man paid me no attention when I approached him with my concerns, he rather walked away as I was still trying to make my concerns known to him. So I followed up to say his attitude was unacceptable and then proceeded to leave the shop since he wasn't going to pay me any attention or courtesy as a returning customer. As I was walking out the door I heard someone scream, I turned my back, only for me to see the Chinese man running towards me with two knives. But for the quick intervention of my cousin the story would have been different.
I handed him over to the police who then transferred him to Maroko police station and he was asked why he wanted to stab me and he said Cos I said "see this Chinese man o" .
Anyways God got me covered Physically and spiritually"

After Buhari’s Departure, NASS Commences Impeachment Process, As 250 Lawmakers Invoke

BREAKING: Barely 24-Hours After Buhari’s Departure, NASS Commences Impeachment Process, As 250 Lawmakers Invoke Section 144

There are alleged reports making rounds, that the National Assembly is making attempts to invoke section 144 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, aimed at ascertaining the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari, for his immediate impeachment.
This came to bear, as Buhari on Sunday night, left for the United Kingdom, UK, for a follow up medical examination, despite spending 50 days on an earlier medical vacation, between January and March.
As at last week, there was an attempt by the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Kingsley Chinda, to present the issue under matters of urgent importance, on the floor of the House of Representatives.
However, it was learnt that the initiative failed to see the light of the day, because the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, was not favourably disposed to having such a weighty issue with grave political implications in the polity, listed on the order paper of the Lower Legislative Chamber.
It was gathered, that key Lawmakers of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may either re-present it as a motion, or through the guise of a matter of privilege, on either the floor of the Senate, or the House of Representatives, this week.
However, Human Rights Activist and Constitutional Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, maintained that it would be impossible to get 28 out of 42 cabinet Ministers, who are appointees of the President, to invoke such constitutional provision, even if the motion sails through.
He expressed concern, that there were attempts by what he termed the cabals, to hoodwink Nigerians, by creating the impression that all was well with the President’s health status.

Some abducted Chibok schoolgirls refuse to be ‘freed’

Image result for photos of chibok girls

Future talks between Nigeria and Boko Haram militants will extend beyond the release of the remaining Chibok girls in captivity and focus on negotiating peace in the conflict-hit northeast, according to Mr. Mustapha.
His role as a mediator dates back to 2007, when he founded the Future Prowess primary school in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state. When conflict broke out in 2009, the school remained open and even enrolled those children born to Boko Haram fighters.
Boko Haram has killed 15,000 people and displaced more than two million during a seven-year insurgency aimed at carving out an Islamic caliphate in mainly Muslim northeastern Nigeria.
“We are not just talking … we are still actively working towards peace,” Mr. Mustapha said.
“Even though we have got (some of) the girls back, I don’t feel we have made much progress. After the (release of) the 21 girls, how many hundreds have been killed by suicide bombings?”
Although the army has retaken much of the territory initially lost to Boko Haram, large parts of the northeast, particularly in Borno, remain under threat from the militants, who have ramped up bombings and attacks in recent months.
The release of the 82 Chibok girls could be a sign that the militants are weakening further, raising hopes that the remaining captives will be freed one day, said security analyst Ryan Cummings, head of risk management consultancy Signal Risk.
“While Boko Haram may indeed hold out in releasing all of the hostages to maintain some form of leverage, the reality is that the girls have limited value to the sect outside of public relations capital and are likely placing a strain on resources.”

AMAZING!!! Only One Nigerian University Made The World’S Best University List – SEE

The Webometrics University Ranking, which provides indicators for more than 12,000 universities in the world, is based on university web presence, visibility and web access.
The ranking system measures how strongly a university is present in the web by its own web domain, sub-pages, rich files and published scholarly articles.
According to the ranking system, web presence is a reliable indicator of the global performance and prestige of the universities and could serve as an indirect way to measure efficiency of universities in the performance of their tripartite function of teaching, research and knowledge transfer.

“The Vanguard reports that spokesman of UNN, Chief Okwun Omeaku made this known at Nsukka, saying that the improved rating of the institution was not unconnected with the enhanced research efforts in the university following the Vice-Chancellor’s encouragement and financial reward system.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the replacement of 13 vice chancellors of Nigerian universities.
Twelve of them are federal ones, and Vincent Tenebe, the vice chancellor of the National Open University, has also been relieved of his position. All these institutions were established by the former president, Goodluck Jonathan.”

What Are The Classification Of Lies.

It might be surprising but definitely interesting to know that lies actually have classifications and not all lies are the same; there are indeed different kinds of lies.
There Are;

  • White Lies

This is often believed as the least serious kind of lie. These type of lies are told to avoid burdening an individual with the weight of the truth. An example is showing appreciation for an undesirable gift. These lies are indeed quite harmless but the problem is over time the white liar loses credibility and is dismissed as an insincere person.
  • The Bold-Faced Lie
These lies are common with children, but when an adult does it, it’s just plain annoying. In a bold-faced lie, the liar says something everyone knows is false but stands by it as the truth (regardless of how obvious the lie is). People tend to be resentful of bold-faced lies because of how belittling of time and intelligence it is.
  • Exaggerated Lies
Here the truth is usually mixed with untruth to make the liar look impressive to others. The funny part is the exaggerator will sometimes weave truth and lies in a way that confuses even themselves. Unfortunately, at some point the exaggerator begins to believe these lies that no one else might even believe. It’s truly tragic.
  • Deceptive Lies
This might seem like tautology but it isn't. A deceptive lie is one where the deceiver creates a false impression with truth, either by not telling all the facts or recounting the facts in a misleading way. It’s quite impressive actually and unfortunately people tend to believe these lies. These lies are subtle, yet powerful, hurtful and even deadly.
  • Compulsive Lies
These lies are either caused by low self-esteem or the need for attention. Compulsive liars tell lies even when telling the truth will be easier and better; what matters most to them is the attention the lies will give them. It’s quite ridiculous and at the same time extremely tragic. Compulsive liars typically find it difficult to stop lying as it is more of an addiction for them.
  • Lies of Fabrication
This involves presenting something you are not sure of, as the truth. These lies are very hurtful and damaging, they typically lead to rumors that put others in danger or damage the reputation of others. Gossips and rumor mongers are the people typically associated with these lies.
  • Duplicitous Lies
These lies are typical of people who break spoken promises and commitments. Duplicitous liars typically hide their true feelings and intentions behind false actions and words. These liars cause great damage to others. Unfortunately, they are quite difficult to identify until they've disappointed. One way to protect yourself is to try to speak to people who have previously known the person to know if the person is generally associated with broken promises and commitments, so you can be careful.
